Our recent Facebook post saddened by Bell's decision to scrap small local broadcasts at noon and over the weekends has created dialogue and in the posts comments evolution the main point was muddied in the waters of angry Canadians.
Since the post went up 5 days ago it has reached over a million users, over 6000 reactions and generated over 4000 comments (and climbing)

From the view point of Barrie Ontario and dealing with the staff locally not every person is a "Trudeau Communist" as the thread suggested. To start Barrie is historically a "blue city" currently seating 4 Conservatives in the both Provincial and Federal seats. That being said we respect everyone's political choice and encourage every upset Canadian to vote in every election. We did not want to get into the corporate fight of Bell Media claiming $40 million in losses (in the media division) then showing shareholders record profits while receiving $40 million from the Federal Government. As an independent At the Scene receives no government funding or funding extracted from Bill C-18.
The Prime Minister spoke at a press conference in King City ON to which he said "I'm furious" and "garbage decision" taking shots at Bell Media. Once the government gives over the money companies do as they please. I was a part of one such infusion of cash at a local factory (Conservative majority at the time) only to have the new line shut down and staff including myself laid off hours after the the company received and posed with the "giant prop cheque".
Welcome to the rabbit hole known as politics.
What our indented focus of the post was to point out the jobs that would be lost and the actual people they are. Cameramen, Reporters, Anchors and Producers that report on the local events and news. At the Scene knows more happens in the region then the 9 minutes allotted of a 60 minute newscasts that is devoted to local news. You can blame the Corporation (Bell Media) for wanting to "push the agenda" as so many anger Canadians feel. I know from our time dealing with and along side our LOCAL outlet that they are committed to delivering news to their local viewership. At the Scene may get there first most times. CTV prefers a wait and let the whole story develop and go with a release from the Emergency Service that has taken the lead. We each have our own style and that's why removing them from the local markets will have ripple effects.
The media in Simcoe County and surrounding area is shrinking to where staffs are down to single digits, bigger territories and less time to focus on breaking news that affects commuters and concerned citizens. There are only so many Facebook groups pages and Twitter/X accounts one can follow before you start losing time trying to save time and be informed.
